When attempting to monitor using JMX why do I see the error "Unable to create Java VM" and how do I resolve this?

This error can occur if you try to monitor a server or application using Performance Explorer's JMX support:

This error will be displayed if you have not installed Java Virtual Machine (JVM) or if you have installed the JVM after installing Silk Performer.

During installation of Silk Performer the setup automatically detects installed Java versions.

To resolve this error you can either reinstall Silk Performer or run perfJVMPlaceholder.exe which can be found in the Silk Performer root directory and will update the JMX configuration files.

The correct syntax to use is as follows (replace "17.5" with the correct version if required):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\perfJVMPlaceholder.exe" "C:\ProgramData\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\*.xml" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\Include\jmx-config\*.xml"

This command will update the following files:

C:\Program Files (x86)\silk\Silk Performer 17.5\Include\jmx-config\jmx-config.xml

C:\ProgramData\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\perfExpJVM.xml

C:\ProgramData\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\perfJvm.xml

Please ensure that Silk Performer / Performance Explorer is not running when running perfJVMPlaceholder.exe

There appears to be another file which should be updated during this procedure which is not listed here.

C:\ProgramData\Silk\Silk Performer 17.5\perfJvm.xml
