When monitoring WebSphere 4.0.5 I get the following message "SYSTEM: 0 - The operation completed successfully. Please verify that WebSphere Admin Service and Application Servers are running"

When monitoring WebSphere 4.0.5 I get the following message "SYSTEM: 0 - The operation completed successfully. Please verify that WebSphere Admin Service and Application Servers are running"

The reason that this message may appear when trying to monitor is because when Performance Explorer connects to WebSphere it requires the default server to be started.

When WebSphere is installed, it creates a NodeName (usually defaults to Hostname) for the system. From this Node, it initially creates a Default application server similar to the following :-

-Hostname
-Default Server

More application servers can then be added to this node, as follows:

-Hostname
-Default Server
-Test_Server1
-Test_Server2

Performance Explorer will always try to connect to the first server in the node list, in this case the default server. If this default server is not running then Performance Explorer cannot gather performance counters and the message above is generated.

In order to monitor your WebSphere server you can either

1. Delete the "Default Server" entry so that Performance Explorer can connect to the next running server in the list.

or

2. Start the "Default Server" so that Silk Performer can connect to it.
