When trying to monitor a server using JMX why do I see the error, "Connection refused to host: <IP of localhost>" and how do I resolve this?

Sometimes after a failed attempt to connect to a JMX agent due to an illegal or incorrect configuration, the next attempt with a correct configuration may fail with the message: "Connection refused to host: ".

This is a known issue that will be fixed in Silk Performer 2007 (7.6).
The workaround to this issue is to connect a third time, or to close Performance Explorer and re-open before trying to connect again.
