Elements of a HTML Canvas are not recognized

When recording against a HTML Canvas control, Silk Test is unable to recognize the elements within the HTML Canvas.

A HTML Canvas is used to draw graphics, using scripting, to a web page. As the HTML Canvas is only a container for graphics, the graphics drawn are not part/elements of the DOM and therefore Silk Test cannot recognize these elements via our traditional Locator Spy mechanism. To automate the HTML Canvas, a combination of the following techniques will be required:

  • Low-level events
    • Coordinate clicks
    • TypeKeys event
    • MoveMouse events
  • Image recognition
    • Capture Image Assets of the Canvas elements you want to interact with
    • The Image Assets can then be used to identify and interact with the elements
