SilkMeter 2008 crash when uninstalling from a 64-bit operating system

When running the SilkMeter 2008 uninstaller on an unsupported 64-bit operating system you may get the following error dialog:

Click OK and allow the uninstall to continue. It will then halt again stating that it cannot uninstall the Xerces file.

Select 'Remove on Reboot', 'Do not ask this question again' and allow the uninstaller to continue.

For any other error messages select 'Ignore' and 'Do not ask this question again'.

When the uninstaller has completed, continue with the following steps:

1. Go to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services
2. Stop the SilkMeter Proxy Service
3. [OPTIONAL] Go to \Borland\SilkMeter\Cfg\SilkMeter\ and save the \logs folder (if required - new logs are generated when installing a new version of SilkMeter)

4. Start RegEdit

5. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Muicache
6. remove all data references to SilkMeter

7. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment
8. Remove the SILK_CONFIG_PATH data
9. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services
10. Remove SilkMeter Proxy Service key

11. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Control\Session Manager\Environment
12. Remove the SILK_CONFIG_PATH data
13. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet002\Services
14. Remove SilkMeter Proxy Service key

15. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
16. Remove the SILK_CONFIG_PATH data
17. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
18. Remove SilkMeter Proxy Service key

19. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall
20. Remove the following key: {27FFB4AE-23C1-4E3F-BD7E-666EBA02F0B5}

Note. When using a 64 bit operating system there is an additional registry key, which would need removed.  This Registry key can be found at the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Borland\SilkMeter\2.7.4

21. Reboot

22. Install the newer version of SilkMeter
23. [OPTIONAL] If saved, copy the \logs folder back to \ProgramData\Borland\Silk\SilkMeter\Cfg\SilkMeter and overwrite when requested

24. It is now safe to delete the \Program Files (x86)\Borland\SilkMeter folder.

Failure to follow any of these steps (with the exception of the ones marked [OPTIONAL]) will potentially cause the newer version of SilkMeter to refuse to install until the current version has been removed. The steps marked [OPTIONAL] are not necessary to solve the problem.

When installing the new version if you get the message:

"Setup has detected an older version of Silk Meter:  Click OK to cancel Setup and uninstall the existing Silk Meter version via the Windows Add/Remove dialog. After you have successfully uninstalled the existing Silk Meter version, you can install Silk Meter 15.0"
