What is the current Unix/Linux support within SilkTest?

What is the current Unix/Linux support within SilkTest?

From SilkTest 2006 onwards, SilkTest has no support for Unix/Linux Agents.

If you want to use SilkTest for testing Motif applications with Unix/Linux, you will need to install SilkTest 8.0. No version of SilkTest after SilkTest 8.0 carries support for testing Motif applications within the Unix/Linux environment.

Browsers cannot be tested using the Unix/Linux Agents in any version of SilkTest.

There is a SilkTest 8.0 Agent for Red Hat Linux Platforms and a SilkTest 8.0 Agent for Sun Solaris Platforms:

The supported platforms are:

Linux
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS version 3.0
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS version 2.1

N.B: SilkTest 8.0 requires that you apply any current Red Hat updates for both Linux workstations.

    Solaris

  • Solaris 10
  • Solaris 9

N.B: The Agent for Sun Solaris supports 32-bit applications only.

The SilkTest 8.0 Agents for Linux and Solaris support applications developed in:

  • Motif 2.1
  • Motif 2.2

The use of SilkBean when testing on a Unix/Linux platform:

SilkBean allows the remote testing of Java applications on UNIX and Linux platforms via a Windows host machine.

Tests can only be played-back on the Unix/Linux platform and must be recorded against the Application under test on a Windows platform as it is not possible to record against the application on the Unix/Linux platform via SilkBean.

It is not required to install an agent on the Unix/Linux machine - A SilkBean jar file is copied to the Unix/Linux machine. This Jar file is used to start a Java Bean (via a shell script) which creates a connection between the SilkTest host machine on Windows and the Unix/Linux machine.
