Why do I get error: "Unable to get attributes --(08003) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Connection not open" when data driving test case using Excel?

When installing SilkTest a default DSN "Silk DDA Excel", is created. At the "select data source" dialog when Data Driving your testcase you can choose the same.

However if you select "Excel Files" as data source you may get the following error:

Unable to get attributes --(08003) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Connection not open

If you have selected "Excel Files" as your data source you will continue getting the above error every time you reload the database.

To solve this error, modify your .g.t file as below:

1. Go to the section // *** DSN *** in your data driven script (.g.t)

2. Change the following statement from

STRING gsDSNConnect = "DSN=Excel Files;UID=;PWD=;"

to

STRING gsDSNConnect = "DSN=Silk DDA Excel;DBQ=;UID=;PWD=;"

Alternatively, you can add Excel Files as a DSN if it is not present already under your "User DSN" or "System DSN" tabs on the ODBC Data Source Administrator and can change the above script as follows:

STRING gsDSNConnect = "DSN=Excel Files;DBQ=;UID=;PWD=;"

You can add DSN from Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC
