Why do I receive an Access Denied message received while trying to change to Administrator Security Mode?

Problem:

Why do I receive an Access Denied message received while trying to change to Administrator Security Mode?

Resolution:

If you receive an "Access Denied" message when attempting to change to Administrator mode it is important to ensure that the most up-to-date version of SilkMeter is installed. If so then please check the following:

  • Check SilkMeter is NOT being used in Standalone mode:
START | PROGRAMS | SILKMETER | USER POLICY ADMINISTRATOR | EDIT | CONFIGURE MANAGER CONNECTION

  • Confirm "Use SilkMeter Manager" is selected.
  • If you receive an error when you choose "Use SilkMeter Manager" then you need to confirm the "SilkMeter Proxy Service" is running if it is not then start it. The "SilkMeter Proxy Service" can be found at:

START | CONTROL PANEL | ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS | SERVICES | SILKMETER PROXY SERVICE

Should the "SilkMeter Proxy Service" not be listed please install it:

START | PROGRAMS | SILKMETER | SILKMETER SERVER | INSTALL SERVICE

  • Once the Service has been installed open USER POLICY ADMINISTRATOR and confirm "Use SilkMeter Manager" is selected (following the steps detailed above).
  • You should now be able to change into Administrator mode.

If you still cannot please follow the details in the following resolution Why can I not delete policies or check out policies from SilkMeter user policy administrator window,Why is delete button (X) and/or Check Out policy and Check In policy buttons disabled.?.
