Writing to Excel file returns error: [ODBC Excel Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

Writing to Excel file returns error: [ODBC Excel Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

When attempting to write to an Excel file in Silk Test Classic, you may encounter the error "[ODBC Excel Driver] Operation must use an updateable query".

This error is thrown when your configured DSN has the "Read Only" setting enabled.

When a user creates a new DSN which uses the Microsoft Excel Driver, the "Read Only" option in the ODBC configuration is enabled by default.

To resolve the error, you need to disable this option by following the steps below:

1. Open the Data Sources (ODBC) utility by going to Start > All Programs > Silk > Silk Test > Administration > Data Sources (ODBC)

2. Select your DSN and press the 'Configure' button

3. Press the 'Options' button

4. Uncheck the 'Read Only' checkbox and Press OK.

If you now attempt to write to the Excel file again in your script, the error should no longer occur.
