Is it possible to run multiple tomcat consoles on the same machine?

There are a number of StarTeam applications that use the Apache Tomcat web service, for example,

  • StarTeam Agile
  • StarTeam Web Server

Each of these applications require the use of a Tomcat service. To run these applications on the same machine without affecting each other it is necessary to run multiple Tomcat consoles.

The following parameters will need to be changed:

  • <Service name>
  • <Listener port>
  • <AJP port>

 To modify the Service name:

  1. Go to

    C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam **** Web Server\apache-tomcat-5.5.33\bin

  2. Edit the following files in this location:

    service.bat
    startup.bat

  3. Amend the service name from 'Tomcat5' to something more descriptive such as 'TomcatAgile' or 'TomcatWeb'

To modify the Listener and AJP ports:

  1. Go to

    C:\Program Files\Borland\StarTeam **** Web Server\apache-tomcat-5.5.33\conf

  2. Edit the "Server.xml" file by modifying the ports in each section

  3. <Server port= "8005" ...>

    <!-- Define a non-SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8080 -->
    <Connector port="8080" ...>

    <!-- Define a SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8443 -->
    <Connector port="8443" ...>

    <!-- Define an AJP 1.3 Connector on port 8009 -->
    <Connector port="8009" ...>
