Import a policy to OMW that is exported from OMU

Jump to solution

Hi

I have received an exported policy from an OMU that is to be imported to my OMW.

The export contains:

C\opccfg_ilfaspbhc1_SAP+policies.idx

C\TEMPLATES\interface\interface.dat

C\TEMPLATES\monitor\monitor.dat

C\TEMPLATES\logfile\logfile.dat

C\TEMPLATES\schedule\schedule.dat

C\TEMPLATES\templgroup\templgroup.dat

How do I import this into OMW?

Version of OMW is 8.16

Hello Roar Simon,

Please verify from which OMU version it where exported and how it was done.

From OMW please refer to the following online topics:

- Import OVO for UNIX templates

Which mentions:

-- Begin Paste --

The tool ImportPolicies imports templates downloaded from OVO for UNIX version 8.xx and lower into HPOM for Windows.

NOTE:

Do not use ImportPolicies to import HPOM 9.xx on UNIX or Linux policies into HPOM for Windows. To import HPOM 9.xx on UNIX or Linux policies into HPOM for Windows, use the ovpmutil command-line utility.

-- End Paste --

Please also consult the following topics:

- ovowconfigexchange

- ovpmutil

Also the support document:

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM58029

And forum thread

-- Begin paste --

Export the templates/policies of interest using the Configuration Download facility in the Motif interface.

Navigate down the tree where you've saved the configuration download to the .dat file

/tmp/DWDM/C/TEMPLATES/TRAP/trap.dat

copy the appropriate .dat files to your Windows server

Use 'ImportPolicies /f ' (must be executed in the directory of the dat file, )

ImportPolicies -f trap.dat

C:\>importpolicies

Usage: importpolicies /f <policy file>

                     [/g <policy group>]

                     [/r | /d]

                     [/c ASCII|/c UTF8|/c ISO81|/c ISO82|/c ISO85|/c ISO815|

                      /c ROMAN8|/c SJIS|/c EUCJP|/c GB2312|/c BIG5|/c EUCTW|

                      /c EUCKR]

(/r = replace existing policies with equal name in <policy group>)

(/d = create policies with equal name in <policy group>)

(/c = code set of <policy file>, default is ASCII)

(/x = delete existing policy first before trying to import a new version

-- End paste --

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards,

Export the templates/policies of interest using the Configuration Download facility in the Motif interface.

Navigate down the tree where you've saved the configuration download to the .dat file

Hi Carlos,

OMU is version 8.3.

The OMU administrator says he used the utility 'Download' from CVP.

He found that forum thread you pasted, but there is no "trap.dat" in the exported policy.

Re: Import a policy to OMW that is exported from OMU

Hello Roar Simon,

The tools from the OMW side are the ones documented previously.

The example of "ImportPolicies -f trap.dat" should be applicable to other files.

Please notice the OMU version its very old so per online document its mentioned "The tool ImportPolicies imports templates downloaded from OVO for UNIX version 8.xx and lower into HPOM for Windows."

Hope this helps.

Re: Import a policy to OMW that is exported from OMU

I understand now. As I am used to OMW, I expected to run the import for one config file to get all the policies imported. I see now that an import command must be run for each template file.

Thanks for the help! 🙂
