[ST OMU] DB: ORA-01653: unable to extend table OPC_OP.OPC_HIST_ORIG_TEXT by 512 in tablespace OPC_8

PROBLEM:

In Operations Manager for Unix (OMU) 9.x Java GUI, no alarms are reporting.

Found the below error in System.txt file:

CAUSE:

Errors indicate that the table space of history messages is full.

There are too many entries in history message table.

The root cause is actually poor maintenance practices.

SOLUTION:

The first step in addressing should be to download history messages.

As mentioned above this issue is caused by poor maintenance practices, therefore you need to do

the DB maintenance for history messages using opchistdwn command.

For example, to download history messages that were acknowledged 7 days ago,

#/opt/OV/bin/OpC/opchistdwn -older 7d -file /tmp/OV_Hist_Msg

You can also try extending the OPC_8 tablespace, but for this you first need to consider the impact of being

able to hold more acknowledged messages since this can cause system performance/maintenance issues.

Only increase the tablespace if you really need the ability to store more history messages.

To add one more data file to OPC_8 tablespace you can run he following commands:

#opt/OV/bin/OpC/opcadddbf OPC_8

After trying these steps, OMU should be working again.
