Re: User need to install agent 11.3 on Domain controler 2008 window server

The OA 11.03 installation guide states:

On Windows Nodes

1. Log on to the node with the administrator privileges.

2. Make sure the HP Operations agent 11.00 is already installed and running on the system.

Does your sysadmin authorize you to install as a user that belongs to the local or domain admin group?

The point is, you are installing software that creates its registry keys, sets itself up to run as the system account and as a service...

If you install remotely and it's the first install, the requirements are like (from the online help):

  • Write access to the admin$ share (the user must be part of the local administrators group)
  • Read access to the registry
  • permission to log on as a service (this is only required if you select User/password in the Set Credentials list)

In the remote agent installation dialog box, you will have the option to specify credentials:

- PMAD

- Impersonate User

- User/Password

PMAD could be your solution if it was previously added to the local administrator group.

There's quite some explanations on all this in the online help.

If you install remotely and OA 11.00, 11.01 or 11.02 is already installed, then I think that the install runs through the existing agent's processes (ovdeploy/ovconfd), so you probably wouldn't need to worry too much.

If you find that this or any post resolves your issue, please be sure to mark it as an accepted solution.

Re: User need to install agent 11.3 on Domain controler 2008 window server

Hello

If the user who is installing the agent on the DC does not have local admin rights then there is no way you can install the agent on such systems. The agent installation is going to create folders and put files, add entries to registry and register services and for all these the user who is instaling the agent MUST have local admin rights. Once the agent is installed the doamin admin rights is not used by agent at all for it will be running as SYSTEM user account only.

If installing the agent is going to be an issue because of user rights then you may also consider agentless monitoring using sitescope probes or even minimal monitoring using SNMP (external nodes concepts in OM).

Hope you find bettter answer.

Ram
