QTP/UFT Support Tip: Workaround when connecting to ALM/QC and UAC disabled is required
Admin privileges and UAC turned off are needed as per documentation to connect to QC/ALM from QTP/UFT for the first time.
Since most of the users are non - admin users in some organizations, this has been identified as a problem.
Is there any way to connect to ALM from UFT for the first time without turning off the UAC?
Yes, you must:
- Manually go to each workstation and connect to QC/ALM for the first once an admin has been logged on the machine. This will allow the proper components download and then a successful connection to ALM.
- Also install the ALM client MSI file on each user's machine. You can generate a custom MSI for all your users by using these HP ALM Client MSI Generator. This tool enables you to configure the settings for your ALM servers before installing the client-side MSI.
You can download the ALM Client MSI Generator and User Guide from
Note: Instructions for configuring the settings for a custom MSI, are provided in ALM the user guide.
IMPORTANT: When configuring the settings, you must select the check to include: Component Registration and Use Shared Deployment Mode options.
After the custom MSI is installed on each user's machine, they can connect to ALM without temporarily deactivating the UAC for their user account.
