(MC) Support Tip: Trying to upgrade MC but just realized that you lost your PostgreSQL superuser PW?

Hi there,

You're not alone! If you’re like me, you may often forget a password or two. It is not surprising, considering that we need passwords for almost everything and they should not be reused and should meet certain complexity…

Well, while upgrading your Mobile Center, you’re require to enter the PostgreSQL superuser password:

If you don’t remember it, here is how you can reset it:

  1. Create a backup copy of pg_hba.conf file which can be found under: C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.3\data\
    fileSyst.png
  2. Open pg_hba.conf and change the METHOD from md5 to trust for the uncommented entries (comments have # symbol at the beginning of the line):

  3. Restart PostgreSQL service:

  4. Open PostgreSQL administration tool, pgAdmin3.exe, which can be found under C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.3\bin
  5. Connect to the PostgreSQL 9.3 server by double clicking "PostgreSQL 9.3 (localhost:5432)" node. When prompted for password, leave it blank and hit enter key or press OK button:

  6. Then, go to File > Change Password… menu. Leave Current Password blank and fill in the New Password and its confirmation edit boxes and click on OK

  7. Finally, restore pg_hba.conf to its original state and restart PostgreSQL service again
