ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

Hi,

I've intergated ALM11.0 with UFT 12.50. Able to successfully run the UFT 12.50 automated tests in ALM 11.0 when i manually click on the "RUN" button.

But when i schedule the automated tests at a specific interval thru automatic scheduler, the tests are not at all triggered. Please refer attached screen shot for more details!

Re: ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

Hi,

I hope you have a nice day!

Regarding your issue, UFT 12.50 doesn't support the integration with ALM 11.00 as you can see on the following sceenshot.

Note: This screenshot was taken from UFT 12.50 PAM(Product Availability Matrix)

Also when I said is not supported it doesn't mean that UFT will not work with ALM, it means that we don't guarantee the right performance.

Re: ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

I noticed in your images you specified the test should execute after

9/15/2015 11:15:56 a.m.

But in the last image where you expect to see that the test executed, the time shown in the bottom right corner is

09/14/2015 10:14 PM

The time for execution has not yet arrived, so the test has not yet been executed.

Also, are you aware that for this to work (this feature in general) you have to actually click "Run" to start the test execution process and then it will wait for the time to arrive before the actual code execution begins. You have to do this and leave the QC UI open for the entire time. This feature does not schedule a background task to execute the test.

Re: ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

Hi Oscar,

Thanks for your response!

We have also verified the same scheduler functionality with UFT 11.5 and 12.02 as well, the functionality is not working.

Re: ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

Hi Oscar,

Your solution helps me partially now. Actually I didn't click on "RUN" button but did everything as my purpose is to trigger the automated tests in ALM without any manual intervention!

We have developed automation regression scripts using UFT and our aim is to run the tests from ALM - Scheduler everyday midnight. To achieve this, Obiviously we can't expect any manual intervantion to click on "Run" button everyday at mid night.

Can you please explain me how my problem can be addressed in this case? Thanks!

By the way, I see that ALM 11.0 is supporting UFT 12.50 without any issues. At least in my case!

Re: ALM11.0 Scheduler is unable to trigger automated tests at a specified time

Not sure if you were intending to address those questions to the first person who replied (Oscar) or the second person who replied (me - Trudy). But I will reply again.

ALM 11.0 does not include built in functionality to schedule tests to run without manual intervention. Newer versions have an optional extension called Lab Management that would provide that functionality.

The Open Test Architecture API for ALM allows you to start execution of tests programmatically. One option you have is to right a program that uses that API. You would then use another scheduling tool, like Microsoft Task Scheduler, to schedule the start of your program.

Here is one such example of that solution:
