Failed Hosting the Spider ActiveX

Jump to solution

Hey, Forum.

Each time I open HP UFT, I receive the following error pop-up stating, "Failed Hosting the Spider ActiveX." I have attached a screen capture. Anyone else receive this error?

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Regards, Zac.

Re: Failed Hosting the Spider ActiveX

Jump to solution

Hey, Forum.

I believe we have resolved the issue. My resolution is as follows:

1) Open Internet Explorer

2) Connect to your specific ALM Server Address via Internet Explorer

3) Sign in using valid ALM credentials

4) Select 'ALM Desktop Client' link from the Application Lifecycle Management page

5) You may need to sign in again using ALM credentials

6) Some download stuff executed (this tipped me off to the ActiveX part of the situation)

7) Start a test from Internet Explorer to run on your host machine

... and somewhere along those steps it worked

😎 Opened HP UFT software locally

9) Tried to connect to ALM using same credentials and it worked

Please let me know if I may provide anymore information that may be helpful.

Regards, Zac.

Hi,

Might be a long shot here, but did you try to connect to ALM from UFT before this error message occurred?

If this was the case, I have two suggestions:

  1. Open and login to the ALM server from Internet Explorer. Verify that all the obligatory files are installed and loaded successfully when ALM opens.
  2. Reinstall the TDConnection plugin. It is located under http://[alm_server]:[port]/qcbin/addins.html

Hey, OM_H.

I completed step 2. It appears to have been completed successfully.

Regarding step 1, how do I go about 'Verify[ing] that all the obligatory files are installed and loaded successfully when ALM opens.'?

Hi Zac,

If you do not get any error message, the operation is completed successfully. Was the problem solved by these two steps? If not, please perform steps #2 and #3 of https://softwaresupport.hp.com/group/softwaresupport/search-result/-/facetsearch/document/KM00583767 . It was created for ST but is also applicable to UFT. Finally, what UFT version and patch level are you using?

Kind Regards,

Francisca
