QTP/UFT Support Tip: How to runs tests on a remote computer when a RDP client is disconnected

Hello everyone,

UFT 11.53 introduce a new Product Enhancement called: "Allow UFT to continue running GUI or business process tests after disconnecting from an RDP computer" to enable continue running a test on a remote computer when the RDP client is disconnected or minimize the session.

For example, you can close your computer (and go home for the day), while UFT continues to run your test.

For this you need to follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, then General, then Run Sessions. Enable the "Allow UFT to continue running GUI or business process tests after disconnecting from an RDP computer". Enter the "User Name" and "Password":
  2. Depending on your scenario the "Allow other HP products to run tests and components" setting needs to be enabled. Go to Tools, then Options, then GUI Testing, then Test Runs:

Note: If you want to run UFT in a minimized RDP session, and you are using an RDP 6.0 or later client, you need to follow the steps in the below article: Document KM1166732 - How to make QTP/UFT replay on Remote Desktop (RDP) when the window is minimized?

Troubleshooting, in case you face any problem (we have noticed most issue are related to the DCOM configuration or lack of permissions on the machine):

Most of the above information has been taken from HP UFT User Guide, page 530.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Bryan
