UFT and autosys (CA workload automation)

Hello friends.

I am suppose to run a scheduled automation task, which is written in UFT, on a server which has CA's automation workload softwre installed. (a.k.a AUTOSYS)
Bottom line, when the server is unattended, and shced. task kicks in, UFT is not launched and Autosys's pocess becomes something like a dead process .

However, if there is a user logged into th session and session is open, then UFT is launched propely and the activity is performe OK.

Has anyone here had any experience with this config?

Re: UFT and autosys (CA workload automation)

Hi,

A prerequisite for running GUI test is that a user should be logged in & the machine should be unlocked.

Check this link for details.

Re: UFT and autosys (CA workload automation)

Hi,

You  think there is an option of performing this test a a "headless" test? Without having to animate the browser?
By reading that info on the link you provided, I understand that for GUI tests there is no option to "wake up" the machine if it is locked. It HAS to be "always on" ..??

This is a problem I believe due to security issues of having a server with an open session 24/7...

Re: UFT and autosys (CA workload automation)

There are different ways to achieve this.
1)
Here's a workaround from the same link.
Install UFT on a virtual machine (without a screen saver or lock password), and start or schedule your run session on the virtual machine. Then you can lock your local computer without locking the virtual machine.
2)
If you are using ALM, then you could make use of Lab Management. There you could enable Auto Login feature to login & run tests. Make sure you're on a supported operating system in order to use this feature.
3)
You can also use tscon.exe to unlock a remote machine & set it to console 0 from another server and run the tests. You can lock the machine after test run.

Re: UFT and autosys (CA workload automation)

Answering your question about security: let's you have a virtual machine which is configured to be always on, logged in with a common test user and remains 'unlocked', but only you or your team has access to that particular VM. Isn't that acceptable?
