Automated testing of Microsoft Office applications

A customer wants to automate some processes with MS Word and MS Excel. 

They are resistant to any coding. 

Any advice or is using the application model the best/only choice?

Starting from UFT version 12.x support for MSAA (Microsoft Active Accessibility) controls has been added with the Windows Standard add-in for example the controls within the Microsoft Office ribbons should be identified with property acc_name. With this approach many actions can be automated within UFT, others may need to be handled using the the Microsoft office application object model through coding.

 

Here is an example of how the property acc_name will allow you to know that UFT is recognizing the object That was developed using MSAA technology.
