I have this exact issue also.
The software is stating that I need to update to the latest version (running 7.1.001/7.1.1) and then it just loops at the splash screen when i click ok.
If I click the download button I can download version 7.1.1 again but it doesn't help when i reinstall it.
I've tried both the free and trial versions and they are both broken. I've also tried the proposed patch package to 7.1.2 and that doesn't work either.
How should we proceed with this malfunction ?
I have also tried this on several other computers and the result is the same.
Either something is broken or the version on the microfocus webpage isn't the latest and the trial is completely useless right now.

When starting the freshly downloaded VM Explorer, I am getting a page saying it has expired.

There is no newer version available and OK does nothing. I can only go to "install license" but then I am blocked again.

It read somewhere on this forum that the VM Explorer product is end-of-life and will be integrated into Data Protector.
As far as my information goes, Micro Focus is working on a permanent fix to this problem and will provide a fixed version for download as soon the problem is fixed.
Regarding the rumor VM Explorer will be End of Life soon:
I do not think there is any roadmap or intention to withdraw VM Explorer. The new version 7.1.2 should be available soon and support for V7.1x will be provided till 2023 (self help support till 2027)
