How to Configure Event and Error Logs to Display Timestamps that Reflect DST Changes

How to Configure Event and Error Logs to Display Timestamps that Reflect DST Changes

Problem:

How to Configure Event and Error Logs to Display Timestamps that Reflect DST Changes

Resolution:

  • Product Name: BES App Server
  • Product Version:5.2.1
  • Product Component: Partition, Logging
  • Platform/OS Version:Windows, Solaris 8

Description:

Is there a way to modify the format of the event log in

$(install folder)\var\servers\$(server name)\adm\logs\partitions\$(partition name)\event.log?

Currently, the output is something like

[Tue Mar 13 10:08:24 CST 2007] stdout: 03/13 11:08:24 [readPool Worker] INFO : .......
[Tue Mar 13 10:08:24 CST 2007] stdout: 03/13 11:08:24 [readPool Worker] INFO : .......

when the user has applied DST patches to his environment (OS, JDK, etc.), it should reflect the changes and show something like this

[Tue Mar 13 10:08:24 CDT 2007] stdout: 03/13 11:08:24 [readPool Worker] INFO : .......
[Tue Mar 13 10:08:24 CDT 2007] stdout: 03/13 11:08:24 [readPool Worker] INFO : .......

instead of CST, it should become CDT.

Answer/Solution:

First, upgrade to the latest JDK patch (that includes DST?fixes)?from your JVM Vendor.

Then, update the following configuration files to point to the DST patched JDK

- /bin/vbroker.sh
- /bin/vbj.config
- /bin/toolsjdk.config
-/bin/ appclient.config
- /var/servers//adm/properties/partitions//partition_server.config

The user should also set the JAVA_HOME and PATH variables
