Visual Cobol 2.1 on Windows 10

Hi

Apologies if this has been answered bfore, couldn't find it on the forum.  Is Visual Cobol 2.1 for Visual Studio 2010 compatible with Windows 10?  Just installed the trial on a new Windows 10 computer and it seems to be working ok but I want  to be sure.  We will soon be upgrading all our PC's to Windows 10 (currently on XP) but still want to use VC 2.1 for the moment.  Also, is Cobol Server 2.2 and 2.3 compatible with Windows Server 2012?

Visual COBOL 2.1 is not supported on Windows 10, and I believe this is the case also for Visual Studio 2010.

You will need to upgrade to version 2.3 to be supported on Windows 10.

You may also consult the Micro Focus Product Availability and Support Schedule page to see what Micro Focus product and version are supported on a specific platform.

Just to clarify in relation to that web page you mentioned above, if, for example, I select Product: Visual COBOL for Visual Studio, Product Version: 2.1, and Windows 10 does not appear in the Operating System combobox, does this mean that VC 2.1 for VS 2010 could still work under Windows 10?  Or would you recommend using only product versions on Opersting Systems listed for that particular product version?

We had been planning to start running our application, developed in VC 2.1 for VS 2010 in Windows XP machines with the Cobol Server license on Windows server 2012.  Then, soon after, upgrade to Windows 10 machines, still using the VC 2.1 exe'sand dll's, and Cobol Server 2.1, before upgrading from VC 2.1 for VS 2010.  But that may not be feasible, given what you say above.

If the product version and OS compatibility combination does not appear in the chart then it means that it has not been tested and is therefore not supported by Micro Focus.

It does not mean that it definitely will not run in this environment it means that if you choose to run in an unsupported environment then you are pretty much on your own if you run into problems. Supportline will not be able to help you with problems that you run into on unsupported platforms.

We therefore recommend that you always run with a newer product version that has been fully tested and certified on the OS where you plan to deploy.
