so is this how it is supposed to work or is it broken? I'm currently
using a very old version of ZW with this configuration and DLU works
great. However it doesn't work with Vista/Win7 so I need to find
something that does.

my brain is fried...

Re: DLU "cache volatile user"

Steven,

it was never supposed to work that way: it worked with old ZEN, because
of a bug, basically. I'm curious: doesn't it make life hard if everyone
who logs into a local machine uses the same local name?

actually we have a lot of users that share computers and those depts
heavily rely on the desktop being the same for everyone.
This has also allowed us to not give any users admin rights to
workstations. When I logon with a maintenance logon I have admin rights
using the local user. So all programs, printers, etc that I install
automatically give that user "Creator Owner" rights to the program files
and registry settings. That way a regular user logon with only user
rights gets onto the machine using that same local user they inherit all
the rights they need to manage those programs, printers, etc.
Thats not as much of a problem as it was 9 years ago, but we are still
saddled with a lot of legacy programs here.

I'd like to fight to have this functionality. I will raise a bug, can
you get me customer details please?

Total users that may be affected:

and send this to spond at novell dot com

Re: DLU "cache volatile user"

Hello Steven and Shaun.

I'm also interested in sharing local windows users between different eDirectory users. As Steven, I'm trying a clean ZCM 10 SP2 on SLES 10 SP2. Have you had any progress with this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: DLU "cache volatile user"

Dtascon,

the fix for this is expected to be in 10.2.1 - my fault, I was supposed
to write the TID, but haven't had time yet...

Re: DLU "cache volatile user"

Shaun, thanks for your answer. The magic question now is, is there any schedule about the 10.2.1 release? 🙂

Re: DLU "cache volatile user"

It is currently undergoing validation and might be released next week.
However, until validation is complete and any issues discovered are
resolved, no firm date can be given.
