Dell E7480 Network card not found - server unreachable

We have some Dell E7480 to be imaged but not able to find the network card at all. (It is an Intel 218-LM) I checked the hwinfo and it is coming back that it is “0x8086 15d7”

We had some E7470 with the same network card but was able to image them fine.

I have tried all versions of zenworks boot cd I can find (11.4.1, 11.4.2, 11.4.3, 17.1.0) and none of these pick up the network card. Is there a later zenbootcd with these drivers on?

My knowledge on Linux is very limited and I feel I am going around in circles trying to understand how to compile a network driver and put it into the initrd. It is becoming very confusing.

Is there any chance anyone can help me as i am struggling with this.

Piracyx,

have you tried one of the Imaging Updates that you can get from the patches website - http://download.novell.com/patch/finder/#familyId=18962&productId=&dateRange=&startDate=&endDate=&priority=&distribution=&architecture=&keywords=

Re: Dell E7480 Network card not found - server unreachable

Hi Shaun,

I am unable to download the latest update as it is restricted. The latest I can download is 11.3.2FRU but apon checking the contents of the initrd file there is still no support for 218-LM in the Dell E7480.

How can i get a later version?

May want to check to see who in your organization is authorized to download updates.
Even Educational institutions who may not get access to Service Requests are authorized to download any published patch.

However, ZCM 11.3.x is out of support and is no longer receiving imaging updates.....

Hi Craig,

As far as i am aware we do not have a contract anymore.

All i really need is a zenworksbootcd.iso (November 17) that contains the latest e1000e or even a modified initrd file.

Is there anyone here that can help me with this?

Thanks

Piracyx,

as far as I know, if you don't have maintenance, you're not entitled to
that update, and it would be against the terms of their license for
anyone else ot share it with you?

Re: Dell E7480 Network card not found - server unreachable

Hi Shaun,

I find that response very unhelpful. I have explained why i need the boot cd (I didn't ask for anything else) and since this is based on Linux/suse - technically it is free?????? And without the remaining tools it is useless on its own.

I can obtain the 11.7 via trial no problem but this didn't work either so there is no evidence that the latest bootcd will even work for me, hence why i was asking. Why would i pay for something that free and is not been proven to work - As this has not been confirmed anyone in this thread?

I may just use another solution now as this is a waste of my time and no one is clearly going to help with any of what i asked for in my original thread.

What makes you believe that any and all software running on Linux is
free? The core process of the imaging piece, the img program that runs
on this linux is *not* open source, nor free. It really doesn't matter
much if it's useless by itself or not. It's neither my nor your
decision. Legally, every non-microfocus employee that helps you to
aqcuire this code without being legally entitled to it through
maintenance is severely breaking the law, if you like it or not.

Re: Dell E7480 Network card not found - server unreachable

Hello Guys,

I am having the same issue, but this is a hp elite aIo 800g3. We downloaded the ZENworks11.4.3.FRU1_August2018 update .
Still showing No network card detected. Under windows 10 it is detected as Intel l219lm.
Any suggestions, please?

Re: Dell E7480 Network card not found - server unreachable

From the Bash Prompt....check the Kernel Version.....
Make sure it is loading the expected version which should be the latest listed on the August 2018 Imaging Update page....

There are some cases were a certain file is not updated on the imaging server...causing it to download the old 32-bit Kernel vs the 64-bit Kernel.

The old 32-bit Kernel does not support most modern HW and is only there to support very old devices.

No worries mrosen.

I managed to resolve it myself no thanks to anyone here.

I guess I know more about Linux than the people here now.
