LM.Detection.exe high CPU during patching

I'm trying to push a Patch Bundle out to clients to update 3 products: Flash, Java and Google Chrome. The patching does work successfully but there's a long delay before the install actually starts (5 minutes+ on an i5 \ SSD machine) with LM.Detection.exe and colw32.exe hitting very high CPU (80-99%) and also lots of disk reads \ writes.

Is this normal as it seems to really slow down the machine before, during and for a couple of minutes after patching. I've got AV exclusions set up as per https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7007545 but doesn't seem to be helping.

It appears that in the past few days you have not received a response to your
