Registry Key push

Hello,

I am coming from ZENworks 6.5 on NetWare 6.5 and recently migrated to a
Windows only (almost) environment running ZCM for Windows 11.3.
In the old days I was able to push registry keys by creating a simple app
with a force run association but I can't get it to work with the new ZCM.
I created an empty Windows Bundle with an Install Action containing the
registry key to install/push, I then setup an association with a user login
distribution schedule.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong but the registry key does not get pushed
to the workstation...

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Eric

Re: Registry Key push

HKLM or HKCU?

Does it work if you run the bundle manually?

Re: Registry Key push

HKCU. It works when I make it part of a launch action and manually run the
bundle.
Am I following the right steps? Should it be setup as an Install action?

Any good learning material out there?

Thank you.

When you did the "On user login" assignment did you select "Install Immediately after Distribution"? Also make sure under the install action tab -> options to select "Install always" as it defaults to only run once.

Re: Registry Key push

Thomas- The bundle appears on the agent as a device-assigned bundle but does
not push the registry key when the user logins.
Is there a difference between the Install Action "Registry Edit" and Launch
Action "Registry Edit"?

Thanks

But if You don' t find the anser in the question.

I've found another question 😉

Have You tried to assign the Bundle to the user/ a user group/or a folder in the user source instead assigning to the device?

You could try adding a "Delay - Action" of 20 seconds for example prior to the "Registry - Action", does that help?

Re: Registry Key push

If the bundle works manually and is actually configured with the options suggested by Thomas regarding "install after distribution" and the "Install Once" option is off.....

Then I suspect the login event may not be working.

#1 - Is a User Source Setup?
#2- Are you logging into the User Source?
#3 - Do you have any other 3rd Party Credential Providers installed besides ZCM?

Frank,

My bundle is setup exactly like Thomas described.
The only difference could be that my bundle is assigned to workstations rather than users.

We do this all the time.

In the bundle, we go under the Install Actions "tab".
Then we create a:
Registry Edit action

If it's under HKCU, then you have to select the Advanced tab (in the registry edit action) and choose:
run as USER

(It doesn't work so hot if you select run as System)

For the Options (under the Installation tab), we choose: Install Always (ie: on every login).

We then assign the bundle to the USER with Event: User Login.

I vaguely recall we tried to assign to workstation on event: User Login, but had some issues with it, I just can't remember what it was.
