Script for Desktop Shortcuts

Why doesn't this program migrate desktop shortcuts. Does anybody have a workaround for this? thanks

Re: Script for Desktop Shortcuts

Provided you check the Desktop directory, it copies them over fine,
here at least

Dave,
I am new a this but I was expecting the Desktop Settings box checked,
under System Settings, would control the capture of the current user's
desktop settings. But the Default User settings seem to take priority
over the migrated DNA data. Dave are you sugesting the local user desktop
folder be selected under te files option?

Re: Script for Desktop Shortcuts

Yep, the setting sare just it looks, icon order, wallpaper, stuff like
that, so get the shortcuts, check the directory as well

Dave,
That's what I found in testing. The implication of that process is that,
in order to save specific attributes from the user's profile like desktop
and quick Launch icons, PST files and such, you have to browse the actual
user ID file structure when creating the template to select these items.
How can the template be configured to be generic? Hummm. One last
observation.
It would appear from some of the questions I see in this forum about
filters not catching the *.PST file under the user prifile, this product
has a bit of a hard time scanning the folders of a user profile created by
a Domain user. As opposed to a locally created one.

Re: Script for Desktop Shortcuts

I've got a saved profile set up with the required boxes set, so you
only need to do that once. I don't have any domains here or use
Outlook, so I've no experience with those, but it would have problems
with any open files of course.

Cheers Dave

Re: Script for Desktop Shortcuts

I am having the same problem.

If I want to use the method described in the ZEN 6.5 documentation to
make automated DNA backups via a NAL app, then I don't see an easy way
to backup a user's desktop (i.e. folders and files in the <current user
profile>\desktop directory).

Yes, I can manually select the current user's desktop folder and include
it in the backup, but I cannot see an easy way to do it programatically.

That's a serious design flaw if you ask me. If there is a workaround,
then it's a serious usability flaw.
