Uninstalling Office 2010

Hi,

I've been trying to use the bundle uninstall feature to uninstall office 2010. I'm having the same results no matter what.

I have tried running it the documented Microsoft way:
\\server\share\Office 14\setup.exe /uninstall ProPlus /config \\server\share\Office 14\ProPlus.WW\SilentUninstallConfig.xml

I have tried calling msiexec and using the guid for the product.

I have also tried using the office scrubber file included in the microsoft fix it utility.

No matter which way I run this, office will uninstall, but zcm reports back stating a failure occurred. Has anyone had any luck in getting office to uninstall?

Thanks,

Don

Just to add further information, here is the exact message in the zmd-messages.log file.

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

Can you try starting the uninstall from a batchfile (below), manually
so we can see if ZCM thinks it fails because it returns an errorlevel?

@echo off
setup.exe /yadadad
if errorlevel 1 (
echo Failure Reason Given is %errorlevel%
exit /b %errorlevel%
)

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

Hi Andres,

I think I found the problem, why its happening I'm not sure, but it is. It is running the uninstaller but the error level is 1.

OK. The only common indication the caller has of a called process'
success is the return code. Sometime in the gray mists of time, great
learned men sat down and decided that 0 was a nice round number to denote
success.

I guess it is time to find out why the uninstalled returns something else
🙂

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

Hi Anders,

Yes, that's what I don't get. It successfully uninstalls. I've found that when I run the offscrub.vbs I get an error level of 2 which means a reboot is required. I've set zenworks to accept 2 as a success code but still no dice. When I run the utility again through the bundle uninstall, it then returns a 0 success code (because its already been uninstalled at it didn't encounter any error levels along the way).

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

ZCM 11.2 will accept * to treat any exit code as valid.
If it's actually uninstalling but simply getting seemingly random return
codes tossing false errors, that should help.

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

Thanks. I've tried working with it but seem to be getting nowhere. Are either of you familiar with the OffScrub10.vbs file (Office Scrubber)? Could it be that the script isn't actually generating a code to zenworks even though if I launch it via command line it does?
I'm pretty green at this stuff, so thanks for your help.

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

The failure code is normally listed in the error log.
You may also be able to chain some calls to mask the erros.

For example having a batch file run offscrub10.vbs followed by the
exit 0 statement.

Re: Uninstalling Office 2010

I've never had an issue with the office uninstall, the uninstall routine does work correctly, it's just a matter of filling in whatever return code you get from the uninstaller. ZCM should actually say what the return code is when it uninstalls

All you need is the return code entered in the uninstall routine, that way ZCM will be able to flag the bundle as uninstalling correctly
