Re: Unknown Target Address-ZCM Agent Deployment Task

I'm afraid I don't know what next to look at without physically being
there. Sounds like you will have to open a SR. sorry

Re: Unknown Target Address-ZCM Agent Deployment Task

Thanks anyway Jared. Wondering though, do you have a clear understanding of how the registration process takes place and if/when DNS is required for the process to work? If you have, or could point me to the documentation that lays out the process, I'm thinking I'll be able to figure out what the problem is.

I'm just not clear on when the workstation is communicating with the ZCM server or when the proxy is and if either requires DNS to do so.

Thanks for the responses by the way.

Re: Unknown Target Address-ZCM Agent Deployment Task

Shaun might have a better answer than I, but from what I have seen DNS is
very important from "push". From pull POV workstation DNS is not as
critical and can be "lived with".

The push side of it, the servers and "zcm in general" defaults to DNS and
doesn't always try the IP address.

For registration and such I have worked with NO dns and live to tell 🙂

Re: Unknown Target Address-ZCM Agent Deployment Task

It works without DNS, but sucks 🙂

Re: Unknown Target Address-ZCM Agent Deployment Task

Same here... 2500 workstations. I've been working for months on the conversion from Zfd 7 to ZCM 11 and now when I'm ready to deploy the agent, this brick wall.

I think I have the answer, but I don't like it.

I have a SLES 11 Primary Server with either a Windows XP or Windows 7 proxy.
When you launch the deployment task the primary server hands essentially the
entire task over to the proxy, including resolving the name of the target
machine. My proxy was speaking to a different dns server than the primary
server AND there was no record in dns for the target machine. When I put the
a and ptr records for the target in the proper dns server the proxy
proceeded to connect and deploy the agent.

There is no way the customer is going to put their 3500 workstations in dns
or enable dynamic dns. I need the deployment task to target the ip
addresses, not the dns names. If that is not possible I will have to resort
to using the zfd 7 app object or a login script.
