ZCM 10 installed on OES 2 not working now

I originally installed ZCM on a SLES 10 SP1 machine and things seemed to
be working fine. I later added OES2 to it and things seemed to be
working fine.

Yesterday I noticed that when I went to https://zcm/zenworks-setup the
page came up where I could choose the agents and tools but when I tried
to click on them, IE would just say there was an error on the page. I
got around that by using SCP to copy the stuff I wanted directly off of
the server to my workstation. I thought that maybe restarting the
server was needed but hadn't done it yet. If I went to https://zcm it
would bring up the login page for ZCC and I could login just fine.

Today one of the guys said that pressing Control-Alt while workstations
are PXE booting isn't bringing up the menu any more. I decided to
restart the server at that point. Now Control-Alt still does nothing
AND https://zcm/zenworks-setup gives me Object not found! If I try
https://zcm it takes me to the OES2 startup page where I can get into
iManager, etc. It appears that the configuration for ZCM's web pages is
now gone. I can't get in to see anything at all. I went into
/etc/apache2/ and did a grep -R zenworks * and found nothing.

I still need to upgrade to 10.0.2 (still using 10.0.0-1 according to rpm
-q novell-zenworks-core-server). What should I do? We're not using it
in production at this point. Should I just make a 10.0.2 disc and
install from scratch? There is only 1 workstation in the db right now
and it is for testing only. If I'm going to just install 10.0.2, how
would I do that? Do I need to remove the previous install first? If
so, how does that happen?

Re: ZCM 10 installed on OES 2 not working now

By the way, OES2 was installed quite some time ago. I could never get
into iManager on that server until today. Now I can get into iManager
but not ZCC.

Have you thought about binding a second virtual IP address to the server
and binding ZCM services to this address? Think it would save you a lot of
trouble down the road.

I hadn't thought of that but it sounds like a good idea. How do I do
that at this point without having to start over? I know how to add an
IP address but what about changing ZCM to use that new address?

Does this help?

Yes! That did it! Now I just need to start applying the updates and
get the server up to 10.0.2! Thanks a million!

Sweet!

Can the document be improved?

I'm not sure it can be improved. Pretty straightforward. One thing
I've noticed, though, after fixing the IP address and then doing a fresh
install on my laptop of the agent, the agent gives the other IP address
as the IP address of the server. Is that file only for the web
interface portions? It appears that it is working. I haven't tried
delivering any content to my laptop yet, though.

Re: ZCM 10 installed on OES 2 not working now

I am having another problem that I'll bet is related. The ZCM server
(called ZCM in this case) is not functioning properly. The update to
10.0.1 is stuck in a pending state. I followed the TID that required
putting the WAR files in place and restarting services but the update is
still pending.

I also noticed that the server says the last time it had contact with it
was 10/31/07. It appears that the agent software on the ZCM server is
no longer able to communicate with the server itself. Is there
something I need to change to be able to get it working? The ZEN
services are now on a different IP address. Also, how can I get the
update to push through? It is authorized and I chose Apply Update to
all devices (bypassing staging). Nothing has happened since that point.
It just went to the pending state.

Which address does ZCM ping to? If you look at the agent properties on a
workstation, what DNS entry is used for the ZCM server?

The server now has 2 addresses. .25 is zcm and .27 is where the zcm
services are pointing after adding the new address and changing the xml
file you talked about earlier. zcm resolves to .25. Nothing resolves
to .27 right now. I think I'll add zcm-services to point to .27.

Yes that must be required....I should probably note that in the document.

Then now do I get the clients (both on the ZCM server itself and the
laptop) to point to the new address/name? I searched the registry and
the file system and couldn't find it.

How many are we talking about?

You could just re-register...Unless there are a lot of machines.

The information is stored in....
"program files/novell/zenworks/conf/initial-web-service"

Right now we're talking about 3 machines (that includes the ZCM server).
I changed the file on the ZCM server already but it still isn't
working. The server shows online but if I try to do a refresh it says
connected and never goes beyond 0%. It still says that the last time it
was contacted was 10/31/07.

I just changed the initial-web-service file on my laptop, restarted the
whole thing and the file says zcm-services and .27 but when I
right-click on the Z and choose Properties it says zcm and .25.

I'm not sure how to re-register.
