ZCM 11.2.3a MU1 to SP3 Question

I'm planning to update our ZCM server to SP3, but I have a dumb question. A consultant was originally paid to build our ZCM server, and I don't know if he used a virtual appliance or not. Considering the documentation states that you should not update a virtual appliance, but rather replace it, I now need to know.

How can I tell if I'm using a virtual appliance or a straight SLES box?

Thanks

Good question, maybe ask the consultant 😉 If you open YaST on the server, do you see a Software section there? In the /boot/grub/menu.lst file, do you see the word "Appliance" there?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I wish I could ask him but he has apparently fallen off the edge of the Earth.

In YaST there is not a software section. In the menu.lst I don't see Appliance. The the default boot option title reads "ZENworks_11.1_[VMX]".

Okay, then I'm pretty sure it's the appliance you are running.

Re: ZCM 11.2.3a MU1 to SP3 Question

Can I replace a standard SLES install with a virtual appliance? Would performing the migration work as designed or does the older machine also have to be an appliance? I'm thinking that might be easier than worrying about it.

Did you ever get the answer to your question ?
I also would update from 11.2.1 oes2 to 11.3 virtual appliance .
Can that be done ?
Can not find documentation about this.

Thank You

Hi

NOt sure if this would work, but could be:
https://www.novell.com/documentation/zenworks113/zen11_server_migration/data/ba68h2j.html

Have you checked this option?

That is one valid option.
In short, the Unsupported Primary Servers need to be replaced 1st.
Then Upgrade to 11.3
It is a 2 step process.

The Server Migration tool is one method to get an 11.2.1 Appliance into the zone in place of the OES2 server.
This can then be upgraded to 11.3
