ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

Our Windows 2008 r2 server has ZCM 11.0.0.0 installed and we have been running pretty good but are wanting to patch our zcm to support windows sp1. What everyone opinion and why ,on whether to upgrade to just or zcm sp1 or go all out to zcm sp2?

As ZCM 11.2 should be do out in a couple of days... I'd say, hang on for a little while longer before updating to 11.2 (give it some time to 'sit' and see if anything pops up with those installing and updating to 11.2 that requires attention).

Out of interest, which DB engine are you using for the ZCM setup (Sybase/Oracle/MSSQL)?

Cheers,

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

We are using the sybase that comes with zen

any idea if the upgrade path from sp1 to sp2 will be the same as .0 to sp1.
1. down all zen servers
2. use the media to upgrade the database
3. use the media to upgrade each server individually before bring them back on line.

or will it be able to push out using the integrated upgrade utility in zen?

As far as I know, upgrading via the DVD is the only option (which seems a more robust way to do it as it breaks the steps down). The beta documentation can be found here : Novell Documentation, Upgrading the Primary Servers to ZENworks 11 SP2 (Beta).

I'll drop a question with my Novell contact to see if system update will be presenting an option when already on 11.1.

Cheers,
Willem

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

Willem,

I am just a little curious; read this in the docs: "NOTE: Do not extract the ISO image and use it to upgrade to ZENworks 11 SP2."
By any chance, do you know what's the reason for this? 🙂

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

Different issues can arise, including path length limits.
There have been numerous cases where customers have had various install
issues resolved simply by mounting the ISO

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

Hi Craig

Okay, so it's in that direction... well then it would properbly work if I uses a extracted ISO from the C-drive (or the root of another drive). This is what I've done in the past... But to be sure I'll get the ISO attached to the servers (in Vmware).

Nop1983,

also problems when the ISO has been downloaded using IE, and it's just
not supported 🙂

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

spond,

Okay, I'll use the ISO in the deployment. I did however just upgrade using both, ISO and an ISO extracted into a folder, with same result: success 😄

Re: ZCM 11 SP1 or SP2

I doubt there is a known issue that is New to 11.2, just that Novell
does not test it extracted and there have been numerous cases where
mounting or using a physical disk fixed various issues.

I'm not gonna say it cant work if you extract it if possible use a
physical disk or mount it for the least chance of issues. (And Checksum
the ISO first :>)
