ZCM Agent issue

Hey,

I seem to have random users that experience that the assigned bundles doesnt start when double clicking them.

I have several applications thats being started directly on a network share. Now and then, when users start the bundle, it sits there, then suddenly claims its downloading some content (which its not supposed to do), then claims the application is running, when its not.

A reboot usually solves it, but I cant have users rebooting 3-4 times a day due to ZCM Agent acting up. And Win XP isnt actually fast to reboot :).

This happends on both Windows 7 and XP SP3.

Anyone got any clues to this ?

ZCM is version 10.3.1.

I think something similar have been posted in the forum before, I'm unable to find it and I don't remember if there was a solution to this issue sry.
You could try doing a search for this issue and see if you can find that thread.

Re: ZCM Agent issue

I've seen this in the past when some "Launch Windows Executable" actions
are set to "Wait Until Complete" but they actions never have a logically
detectable completion.

Example: Explore.exe S:\Reports

Since Explore.exe never really enters fresh or leaves from memory this
bundle will be running forever. It will be possible to launch this
bundle over and over again but eventually ZCM will not be able to launch
more bundles.

This setting is not the default for new bundles, but is seen more often
in migrated bundles. Be sure to use this setting sparingly. I would
recommend checking the bundles used most often by the folks seeing issues.

Re: ZCM Agent issue

I've checking with my launch bundles, and one of the bundles already had the "No wait" ticked.

All apps are using genuine executables (aka no use of explorer.exe or similiar memory resident executables) and works as expected most of the time. However once one bundle makes the issue trigger, no "launch app" bundles works, at all.

It seems like the agent looses contact with the ZCM server and a logout/login isnt enough.

I will keep a closer eye on to it, and report back should the issue remain the same.

Re: ZCM Agent issue

Looks like this issue remains in our setup.

I've looked the 10.3.2 and 11.0 readmes for solved issues, and dont seem to have gotten a fix.

Case is still, some random users gets their agent to become "unresponsive". Launch bundles doesnt launch (no error boxes). Just it gets the "downloading content" arrow, and the green tick saying the application is running when its not.

I've found a temporary solution where the users can restart the ZCM agent service, and it will get back into action, but its rather annoying.

So, I hope that someone sees this post and recalls a simiar issue.

The issue happends on both Win7 and XP. Win7 mainly if the pc havent been shutdown during night. The pc never enters sleep mode, as it have been disabled.

Re: ZCM Agent issue

I must admit i didnt.
I couldnt find anyone else with the issue, so assumed it might be a local issue with our setup.

What I meant with the line you quoted is that if it had been a general issue or many experienced it, Novell would most likely have placed in the solved list or unsolved list 🙂

Will create a SR if none else replies to this thread 🙂

Thank for response.

Re: ZCM Agent issue

ZeleD,

understood - I don't remember seeing an issue like yours, but I'll
admit that I don't look at every single bug that gets raised!

Re: ZCM Agent issue

So, i've taken the step to upgrade to 10.3.2 and see if the issue is solved or not.

I know 10.3.2 makes me locked to ZCM 10 untill ZCM 11 SP1 is launched, but seing as we're entering a 3month of "Upgrade lockout" i've chosen to stick with ZCM 10 as it seems to work most of the time.

First 3 days seems like the issue have been solved on my own pc which was hit by the "bug". I will post back if the issue re-appears so if others gets the same "bug" they will have an idea on what to do.

Thanks for responses.
