ZCM: Many BundleManager Errors (File copy failures, Machine Connection failures)

Hi, I have activated alerting (Error level only) but am now getting hundreds of alerts every day containing messages as shown below and am wondering where i go to troubleshoot the failures as there doesn't seem to be any info in the errors on what the problem is (i did a search in the ZCM documentation and on-line for these errors, too). It shouldn't be a file rights issue as have verified that the network file structure is accessible to every user. I am not getting any end users reporting actual problems, so wondering whether these are intermittent or transient problems, something that can be resolved by tuning of parameters/sensitivity? Re: ZCM: Many BundleManager Errors (File copy failures, Machine Connection failures)

Based on the errors and your notes.....

#1 - No User Reported Errors, which means things are working when users are logged on.

#2- You said that you verified "User" rights to the shares....not "Machine" or "Credential Vault User".

This would indicate that most likely you configured bundle actions to access a network share as the "User", which means it would not work when a user is not logged on.

Try...

#1 - Set a System Requirement so the bundle only runs when a user is logged on.  Perhaps set a bundle system requirement for the variable "LOGONSERVER" to exist.

#2 - Configure the Bundle action to run as "Dynamic Administrator" with a specified "Credential Vault" user.

But for troubleshooting, you should look at the bundle and the actions they are doing.

Look at the bundle associated with the error.  Which bundle action seems to be giving the error?  What is the action trying to do?  Is the action running as the SYSTEM Account, Logged on User, or Dynamic Administrator?  Based on what was running, how it was running, when it was running, etc.....what would you expect to happen?  Keep in mind......For most of the events, it is simply ZCM telling Windows to do something very specific and what happens has nothing to do with ZENworks when you account for all the variables you define in the bundle action.

Re: ZCM: Many BundleManager Errors (File copy failures, Machine Connection failures)

Thanks. Yes, I spoke to the apps dev colleague and we do use user login credentials for the bundle file distribution and the dynamic administrator for the actual application installs. He tried to use the latter for the file copies as well but it couldn't access the files even when the folder file and security rights were opened up to all accounts. I will look into this further, as it is never a good idea to have situations of many noncritical alerts obscuring the possible critical one.. Cameron.

Re: ZCM: Many BundleManager Errors (File copy failures, Machine Connection failures)

For Dynamic Administrator to work for "Network File Copies"....

The Source needs to be a UNC Path (Not mapped Drive).  A Credential Vault User needs to be defined such as ZCMinstaller@YourDomain.com  (This would be some UPN name of a valid user in your domain, that is not  literal....

You create an "Install Folder" or "Install File" action which will upload the files to the Content Repo, removing the need for any network permissions
