Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Craig,

Looks like there is another new version of zesm client : not 432 , not 433 , but 434. In any way i'm able to download it.
Maybe that one he can try.

Disabling ZESM will break some ZCM 11 features.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Yes, that is the current "test" version, but access needs to come
through an SR.

Once I have the SR, I can make sure everyone is in the loop about that
version.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Craig, any idea what will be broken by ZESM not being present? We do imaging, bundles and policies - that's it. Small shop, only about 35 machines. So far on the few machines I have disabled ZESM on, everything seems to be working fine. And ZES is not running at all, it doesn't appear in the lis tof running processes anymore. Here's the SR 10682450221 .. Thanks for the help.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

I know location functionality for sure.
If you have only a single site, that is not important.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Details about a test file should be in your SR.
Hopefully this will fix the crashing.

The decision to disable those services might be a choice you want to
make, it just should not be one you have to make.

If it does not and the public patch that should be released in the not
too distant future does not, then I would try to pursue it in case you
ever decide you want some of that functionality.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

If you do not use ZESM, you should not install it on the agents by going to Configuration |Device Mgmt | Zenworks Agent and uncheck ESM. But just note that it only disables ESM features. It does not disable the service "ZESService". ZESService stays running in the background. The reason your computer is rebooting is because by default Novell has the ZESService Recovery properties setup to "Restart the Computer" on all failures of ZESService. So when there is a problem with ZESService not running your computer will randomly reboot b/c of this setting. You should be able to write a script to change the registry settings to choose one of the other options like "Restart the Service" or "Take No Action". If you open services.msc and go to the ZESService, select properties and look at the Recovery tab you will see this. Novell will not change these default settings in their installation b/c it would be a security vulnerability for those who do use ZESM. Therefore in your company, if you do not use this, write a script to take another action during the ZESService failure other than Restart the Computer.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Hi Craig
Same problem here, I wish to know if the patch is still via SR only.
If so, I will open a new SR and let you know.

Thanks!

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Kerengil,

for a short while, yes - I am working on posting a big patch which will
include the ZESM fixes, I would suggest it's worth hanging on for a day
or 2...

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Shaun,

Is it still zesm version 440?
Or is there more inside that "big patch".
Can you create the installation instructions including the options to integrate the new big patch into adaptive agent rollout, And ofcourse to deploy it to existing machines.
I'm still waiting for my sandisk cruzer usb stick fix. But nobody can reproduce that in the US! (SR)

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

442 is the version expected at this point to be included.

The current version of the patch has 14 Agent MSIs in addition to EXE
for the updated ZESM portion of the agent.

Re: ZESService causing Windows 7 to reboot

Shaun,

Integrations into adaptive agent? for rollout new machines.
And a simple rollout for existing machines?
