nalshell.dll causing Windows Explorer to stop working

I am having multiple machines keep coming up with an error that "Microsoft Explorer has stopped responding" and they have to click on the restart to refresh their screen. We are running 10.3.1.xxx and Windows 7 64 bit on the desktop. When exploring around it appears that nalshell.dll is causing the problem. Any ideas how to fix it or has anyone come across this yet?

Re: nalshell.dll causing Windows Explorer to stop working

There have been various ZCM patches to fix that.
Are you just running Asset Mgmt or the full ZCM suite?

Re: nalshell.dll causing Windows Explorer to stop working

I believe just the Asset Mgmt suite. We only use it for asset reports and remote control. I am new to the environment and the sort of thrown into it. I have been playing with applications, but have not deployed any yet. Do you know the specific patches that I can apply to see it is fixes it? Is it a patch for the the agent on the desktop?

Re: nalshell.dll causing Windows Explorer to stop working

There have been a couple different NALSHELL Crashes, but this TID may
apply to you. http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7008379, but
the fixes do not date back to 10.3.1

If you are not delivering apps to the ZCM Bundle Shortcuts, you could
also unregister NALSHELL.dll ("regsvr32 /u nalshell.dll")

I would definitely recommend to start looking at ZCM 11.2.x in a lab and
consider upgrading at some point. ZCM 10.3 will be going out of support
very soon and is lacking many features in 11.x

Yikes! I definitely will look into the latest version. I really like the product! Thanks for the response. I will try thr unregister and see if that helps for now.

I looked for it, but not sure what you are referring too. Can you send a link?

Re: nalshell.dll causing Windows Explorer to stop working

Txrjohnson,

if you use NNTP it's the thread before this one "ZCM 10 - end of General Support on September 30 2012". If you use the web, it's a "sticky" item - e.g., http://forums.novell.com/novell-product-discussions/endpoint-management/zenworks/configuration-management/zcm-10/zcm10-asset-management/459541-zcm-10-end-general-support-september-30-2012-a.html
