Authenticating IIS 7 against Edirectory

I am trying to find out how to get Server 2008 IIS 7 to authenticate
against E-Directory, the same way that IIS authenticates against Active
Directory. I have looked at a number of posts and they all seem to
point to Digest Authentication and an Novell article dating from 2004.
I was wondering if there are any other options available which will
allow IIS to authenticate directly against E-Directory in a seemless
way?

Many Thanks

I've never setup IIS to authenticate against anything, but the way
everything else authenticates against eDirectory (and any other
directory) is via the LDAP standard. Does IIS support that or is it
locked into other systems' authentication mechanisms? If it supports
LDAP then treat eDirectory like any other LDAP source and you should be
good to go.

If it's like other applications you'll need a proxy user in eDirectory
with which to find objects based on usernames (unless you have
permissions allowing that to be done anonymously), and optionally a base
DN from which to search. You'd possibly also need to specify an
attribute on which to do the searches (CN usually, or maybe UID) and of
course the IP address or DNS name of the eDirectory server with the LDAP
interface (present in eDirectory by default).

Good luck.
