Does Domino support an arbitrary LDAP-based backend? If so, how does it
link its users with those from that external database? What kind of
schema extensions does IBM provide for the LDAP directory being used?

Good luck.

Re: How to integrate eDirectory 8.x with IBM Lotus Notes ?

You need to be more specific as to what you wan to accomplish.

Parts of Notes will allow you to use LDAP for Auth but other parts will,
AFAIK, not.

The "Web" password can use LDAP, but the "Heavy" Client will not.

Re: How to integrate eDirectory 8.x with IBM Lotus Notes ?

How does IBM state it can be done? They will be the ones in charge of
documenting how their software can work with a third-party directory.
Once you know the schema, settings, etc. involved you can setup eDirectory
to fulfill that role but eDirectory is not going to have documentation
specific to every LDAP-based application in the world (such as Domino).
You must get steps from them and then we can help you implement them.

Lets try a poor analogy. An oil company (Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.) does
not document every single car in which it can be used. Car companies,
though, often do document which types of oil to use in cars because they
are the ones with the dependency. Domino's dependence on a directory
(such as eDirectory) will need to include the specific requirements of
that directory, just like a car's dependence on oil will document which
weight of oil (or fuel) to use.

Good luck.

Re: How to integrate eDirectory 8.x with IBM Lotus Notes ?

You need "someone's" idendity manager - and Novell's solution is IDM -
to sync the password, and a single-sign on solution and Novell's version
is SecureLogin. In theory, SecureLogin can handle separate passwords for
different systems. You can use just SSO without sync'ing the passwords
but having the same password could make life a lot easier.
