NDSD service automatically starting

Hi,

We are facing an issue in one of our eDirectory servers, in which when
we stop a ndsd service it automatically starts. Please find the
screenshot below.

#/etc/init.d/ndsd stop
Executing customized settings before stopping the NetIQ eDirectory
server...
Stopping NetIQ eDirectory server...
...................... [ OK ]
Executing customized settings after stopping the NetIQ eDirectory
server...
# /opt/novell/eDirectory/bin/ndsstat

[1] Instance at /etc/opt/novell/eDirectory/conf/nds.conf:
CN=xxx=servers.O=system.TREE_Name
Tree Name: TREE_Name
Server Name: .xxx.
Binary Version: 20808.02
Root Most Entry Depth: 0
Product Version: eDirectory for Linux x86_64 v8.8 SP8 [DS]

Can someone help here?

Thanks!

Re: NDSD service automatically starting

This is not going to be an eDirectory problem. Once stopped, there is
nothing on the box from the eDirectory standpoint to magically resurrect
the service, but a lot of other things could do it. Look for things like
cluster software, cron jobs, other services that may be trying to start it
manually; (if on SLES 12 or similar, maybe systemd itself is restarting
the service for you)

Also, perhaps your stop script is actually the problem. Look at the
process to see if it ever actually stopped:

ps aux | grep ndsd

It might also help if we knew which flavour and version of Linux this
was being run on so the output from "cat /etc/*release" could be useful ...

HTH.

If you are on a SystemD OS, it is possible that SystemD is restarting it
for you.
