Number of records supported in multi-valued attribute

Hello friends,
In a multi-valued attribute, the attribute supports many records.

Thanks

Re: Number of records supported in multi-valued attribute

I've seen thousands, but I've never heard what the actual designed limit
is. I'll ask backstage and let you know.

I don't remember seeing any upper limit documented anywhere.

I would guess that the value is going to be in the range of 4 billion
(but that'll be total values in the DIB) - more if the database has been
converted to 64-bit record identifiers.

No public doc that I've ever seen; I used to teach the eDirectory ATT
course, and spent a fair amount of time studying the product, including
at the code level.

Recomedable would have this information because in some requirements,
customers wonder if these multivalued attributes have the ability to
handle large volumes of information

The general answer would be yes.

I'm no longer an employee, so I'm not in a position to formally document
any limit - but I don't recall ever hearing about it being part of
testing either.

There is going to be a point at which a system index is created (25 or
more values) to make searching the values more efficient, and dsrepair
may complain about a large number of values at some point (but I don't
recall what that value is, but I do remember seeing the message in
various logs).

But in all the years I've been dealing with eDir and NDS (since the
release of NetWare 4.0 in 1993), I've never heard of a customer who
exceeded the limits on the number of values in an attribute.

According to his experience could indicate an approximate maximum number
has been used with the record length with multi-valued attribute, thanks

I have seen DSrepair report objects with 40,000+ values. Usually groups
with large membership.

It does work with pretty large number of values. How large are you
thinking? Millions? Billions? thousands?

Anything under a million I would not worry about. Over that I would
consider testing.
