Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

Anyone seen the errors when running

ndsrepair -P -Ad -A.

Selecting root partition and
7. Synchronize the replica on all servers

The error:

Servers that contain a replica Replica Type Status
----------------------------------------------+---------------+-------------
..server-ldap04.Servers.Services.MGMT Read/Write -654
..server-ldap03.Servers.Services.MGMT Read/Write -654
..server-idm04.4.Services.MGMT Read/Write -654
..server -idm03.Servers.Services.MGMT Master
Host

It looks like my tree is in sync but I do get a problem when adding a
server to the root partition. The error is -637, that indicates a recent
move operation, but I have not moved any servers, or done any partition
operations lately.

I could try to fix this using "Repair all time stamps and Declare a new
Epoch", but I am not sure if this gives me bigger/other problems? I am
running IDM 4.02 and IDM 4.5(3) on the servers in addition to
edirectory. (8.8.8)

Anyone with experience in how to troubleshoot this kind of problems?

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

If you have a -637, then find the inhibit move obituaries with iMonitor
which can give you an obituary report very easily (I believe it is even
documented). From there, figure out why those obituaries have not
processed yet and go from there.

A -637 can be for any object, not just an NCP Server object (which is in
fact a thing very rarely, if ever, moved in any environment).

Here I have the obituaries report. Sorry for the formating. I have
TimeStamped the objects earlier, but it returns...

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

This is presumably from a single server, and these are both Dead
obituaries, so they are not for any kind of Move. Find the server in the
environment that has an Inhibit Move or Moved obituary by running the
report on the other boxes and then we can go from there.

These objects look like IDM WorkOrder objects, and I would not expect them
to move in almost any situation.

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

Hi

The obituary report states:
Info: There were no obituaries found.

I runed it on all the other servers with a partition. I also checked
servers that do not have the root partition with same result.

The -637 may be resolved. Do you have any other partition operations that
show up, usually seen as a partition in a state other than 'On'?

-654 is "partition busy" and indicates that something is not happy with
your tree. Has your [root] partition recently been split? Are there child
partitions of [root]?

I'd concentrate on the -654 first, not this -637. It seems more likely
that the -654 is the root problem.

No, that is almost always the wrong thing to do. Did you find that
recommended somewhere? If so, where, so we can get it corrected. "Repair
timestamps" is only used / useful when you have broken timestamps. You
don't have broken timestamps here.

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

There is one other partition. This belongs to the idm driverset. This
partition does not report any errors. The root partion has not been
splitted. I did merge another partition into root, but this was back in
2011 or 2012, so I dont think this can be the problem. I do consentrate
at the 654 pronblem, since this is most llikely closest to the root
cause.

The reason i was considering the "new epoch" solution is that this will
"force" a replication of everything from the "master" server.

That merge may never have finished?

No, it doesn't do that.

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

I cannot be 100% sure the merge completed, but I do not have any
indications of merge process not finished. How could I find if this
process is hanging?

Partitions is marked as "on".
Three is synconized.

From iMonitor, an obituary report might be helpful here.

Do all of the servers agree on the replica ring status for all of your
partitions?

Re: Partition error -654 and -637 in eDirectory

The problem was solved when I contacted support, and they used a tool to
go into the database to remove the obits. After this was done, the -654
and 637 problems went away.

Thanks to everyone for the assistance! 🙂
