Password change without Novell Client

Hello,

Is there any web service etc. to change user passwords?
We currently have users who need access to -Novell/OES2- services and
have -eDirectory- user accounts, but do not have -Novell Client-
installed on their -Windows 7- -workstations.
We need a way for the users to change their own passwords without
-Novell Client-. Anyway this is possible?

Regards

lakend

Re: Password change without Novell Client

A user can change their own password in iManager, though that's not the
most user-friendly interface.

A better way is to setup something like Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR)
for them. It's a simple setup, and it's very flexible with regard to
passwords, forgotten passwords, helpdesk functionality, user lookup (white
pages), etc. depending on what you enable. It comes with several other
products, or can be acquired separately. A free version comes as PWM
which is hosted on Google Code, but is not supported by Novell/NetIQ/Micro
Focus and is not necessarily including all of the same features as it is
technically a different product.

Writing something that uses LDAP and takes the user's old and new
passwords is pretty easy too, but there are so many other things out there
(like SSPR/PWM) that are capable and secure, I'd use those instead.

Or if you want/need support from NetIQ, get
https://www.netiq.com/products/self-service-password-reset/ (which is basically
PWM rebranded and supported, and still open-source).

If you use GroupWise and have it authenticate to eDirectory, then a
user can change their password via GroupWise WebAccess.
