Promoting Server from QA to Production and cleaning eDir

Hi,

We will be moving a windows server that is currently in the QA
environment to the Production environment. As it is currently in the QA
tree I want to make sure we properly remove any QA information from
edirectory on the server. After removing it from the QA tree how can we
"clean" the edirectory instance (dib files, etc) on the server before
connecting it to the Production tree?

The plan to remove the server from the QA environment is to:
- Stop eDirectory on server.
- From iManager remove any references to the server.
- "Clean" server before placing in Prod tree.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Promoting Server from QA to Production and cleaning eDir

The only way to do this is to remove eDirectory, and NICI, entirely. With
operating systems like Linux/Unix you can just remove the DIB, or NICI
data files, and then add new stuff o the box as if it had never been in
the old tree, or you can even add a box to a tree multiple times, or into
multiple trees, but you cannot do this with the windows version.

There really is not much to clean with iManager, though when you clean out
the NICI data files (which you really should ensure is done as those are
tree-specific, and may not be deleted by the unisntall... I do not know
for sure on windows like on Linux/etc.) you may break iManager until you
reinstall everything; I do not suppose this is a big deal, but it is worth
noting.

Just removing the installed software *should* be sufficient. There's an
"ndsclean.bat" in one of the Knowledgebase articles that will remove
everything, but you shouldn't need it.
