Remote Server Replica Will Not Synchronize

I have a remote server which contains a RW of Root and an OU. Time is synchronized with the other servers in the ring - ndsrepair -T. When I run a ndsrepair -P option 6 (Report synchronization status of all servers) the remote server’s time is behind about an hour and just stays at this time. It never changes. I ran ndsrepair -P option 7, Synchronize the replica on all servers. I did this on all the servers in the ring. The remote server will catch up and then within a few minutes the time stops, never changes. The only changes made have been the decommissioning of three OES servers in the ring. NDS was completely removed, the servers are powered off and everything went well. This problem started the morning after the OES servers were removed Any ideas. I am not having any problems as far as I can tell. However, these are test servers and they don’t see too much action. Thank you!!

I'd start by fixing time.

What does "ndsrepair -T" actually show? (edit out the servers names if necessary)

How about "ndsrepair -E" (again, mask anything sensitive)

On "RemoteServer.Partition", what does "ndsrepair -P -Ad" show if you pick [Root], then "10. View Replica Ring"?

Same for "LocalServer.Partition"?

Does d, in the -Ad option, repair the entire DB. That sounds frightening. Yikes!

Out of interest, what are the timezone settings on the servers? Are they all meant to be in the same timezone? Are they configured that way? Are these Virtual machines? Do any of them have vmtools set to sync off host?

All timezones are the same and set to USA - Eastern (New York). Yes, all are meant to be in the same time zone and are configured this way. Yes, they are VMs. VMTools is not set to sync off the host.

Time is in sync on all three of these servers. It's only when ndsrepair - P is run - Report Synchronization status of all servers - and this one server has not synched in three days. If I run Synchronize the replica on all servers Status = OK. Then is off again for the next ndsrepair -P. This server in question is a remote server.

Thank you for your assistance.

Curious about the network between "here" and "remote". Anything in there attempting to do "optimization" or anything like that? I've had problems in the past with network gear deciding that an "idle" session could be simply dropped.

What does "ndsrepair -E" show for these?

I just synchronized the replicas on all servers via ndsrepair this morning so the last sync isn't too far off. However the time shown will not change. I have other remote edir servers and do not have that issue. I'll ask the network folks. Can't wait for the answer 🙂

So no errors, and clearly these three servers seem to think that they're all part of the same two replica rings. Weird.

I confess, I'm kinda out of good ideas on this one. Maybe remove "remoteserver" from one of these replica rings, and re-add it? See if maybe there's some cruft that needs cleaning up? I can't say I like the idea much, but I don't have any others.

Maybe replication has been manually stopped between those servers, or
configured to only happen very rarely? Otherwise I would expect to see
an error of sorts. With the details given about this going broke after
removeing servers on the remote side, I wonder if someone configured
eDir to sync only one server over the line and let the rest only sync
internally, and this got broken by removing the servers that were
allowed to sync?

Other than that, ndstrace +SYNC +SKLK +SYDL should tell us what's going on.
