Removing server from Tree

I cant remember as best practices have changed from older versions of
edirectory/nds. Is it advisable to remove the replicas first, then
remove the server from the Tree? I recall that used to be best practice.
But it seems that may lead to some backlink errors, or whatever. Or at
least in a big tree your server may spin for awhile creating the back
links.

Re: Removing server from Tree

Removing replicas is usually a great idea, yes, especially as part of a
larger strategy. Once done you may want to look to see if you have an
unsolicited connections from clients, and then if so perhaps start finding
them and pointing them to other boxes (unless you plan to re-build a box
with this server's IP address). With a replica removed, the number of NCP
clients coming here from a referral list for any objects held on this box
should drop pretty quickly, but until then that's not the case as
replica-holders will be in all lists of referrals for objects they hold.

I prefer to do that, but it's not required.
