Upgrade eDirectory 8.8.6 to 8.8.8.

Hi Guys,

First details:
eDirectory -
Binary Version: 20606.01
Root Most Entry Depth: 0
Product Version: eDirectory for Linux x86_64 v8.8 SP6 [DS]
Server -
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64)
VERSION = 11
PATCHLEVEL = 1

I was going through the documentation for upgrading eDirectory from
8.8.6 to 8.8.8, the documentation does have good information on how to
get eDirectory upgraded.
But, there are no backout procedures in case of upgrade or install
failure?

Could you please help point towards, some information regarding the
steps that I need to take incase the upgrade fails?

PS: I am aware that, first I need to upgrade our SLES servers to SLES 11
Sp3. 🙂

I don't think I've ever had an eDirectory upgrade fail on Linux. As long
as there isn't a DIB upgrade involved, it's just a bunch of RPMs to
install.

I suppose you could probably just put the old RPMs back in place. If
there was a DIB upgrade, you can't back out, though, since the older code
wouldn't work with the newer DIB.

Exactly, and if in doubt, test environments should be used first (and if
not in doubt, same thing).

Hi Guys,

Sorry for getting back to this post.
I am working on upgrading eDirectory in our test environment.
I need a backout plan in case of the failure, as, David suggested that I
can put back in the old rpms in place, just wondering how would I
accomplish that? (I am not that of Linux guru... :()

Power off the various test environment VMs. Take snapshots. Now patch.

You should be able to do this with the nds-uninstall and nds-install
scripts, if I recall correctly. It's a test environment, so give it a
shot and see what happens.
