Upgrade from 8.7.3 to 8.8.7 ( about repairing and patching)

Hello,

I have to upgrade eDirectory from 8.7.3 windows 2003 to eDirectory 8.8.7
Linux by adding new eDir 8.8.7 to existing replica ring and removing the
old servers (8.8.7)

For that I have to

- Apply patch for 8.7.3 ( latest patch for eDirectory 8.7.3 10 TFT 2 )
- Repair local data base on each server until I get 0 errors

So whats recommended ? patching first or rpairing first ?

Regards

Always a good practice to be current, sure.... but not required for life
or patching to succeed usually.

Why? This is not a necessary step afaik.

Patching if anything, though you should be fine just adding new things
and moving forward if it comes down to it. Being on the current code
only helps (I believe anyway, based on my experience) if you need
support from Novell for anything during the addition of new systems to
the tree. If you were on older code (pre eDirectory 8.7.x) then
patching may be required depending on the version used.

Good luck.

Re: Upgrade from 8.7.3 to 8.8.7 ( about repairing and patching)

Thanks ab,

After patching the eDirectory Servers ( 8.7.3.9 on Windows 2003) with
patch 8.7.3.10 ftf 2, I get "Service NDS Server could not establish
control over NDS Server" on the event viwer after Windows restart, and
eDirectory Server is not started do you have an Idea ?

My VM has two NICs , could that be the reason ?

Regards

Hm..... well, multiple NICs could potentially interfere I suppose but
generally it shouldn't, or at least not with the process starting. I've
never had a windows box with multiple NICs though so I'm not sure how
that differs from settings on a Linux box, or a NetWare box, or any
server OS.

Any errors showing up anywhere? When was the last time eDirectory was
restarted on this box? Are you running anything else on here besides
pure eDirectory (IDM, for example)? If you disable one of the NICs does
that help? Have you checked your list of processes to see if perhaps
things are running but the console used to view eDirectory is not
showing it?

Good luck.
