eDir 8.8.8 on Windows 2012 DC fails

Install in eDir 8.8 SP8 onto a standalone Windows 2012 DataCenter
server, Build [Version 6.2.9200].

Start the install/setup and a message come up
---
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) has to be
installed. To resolve
this issue, refer to Readme or Installation Guide.
---

The Readme and Installation Guide do not make any reference to Microsoft
Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) requirement.

However I see the eDir setup does install the vcredist_x86.exe
(v8.0.56336) (which comes with the eDir install program) and install
vcredist2k12_x64.exe (v11.0.60610.1). But the eDir Setup still
complains of the C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable requirement.

Downloaded the MS C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Redistributable Package
(x86) (MS site states v8.0.50727.762), install it (it installs as
v8.0.59193). Still the eDir Setup complains of the C++ 2005 SP1
Redistributable requirement.

So, what exactly does the eDir setup want/require?

How do I get past this point to install eDir 8.8 SP8?

Any thoughts/suggestions/answers?

Have a good day.

Re: eDir 8.8.8 on Windows 2012 DC fails

Fixed my own issue.

Even though the message was asking for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1
Redistributable Package (x86), it really wanted the 64 bit version. So
I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64)
(v8.0.59192). Then the eDir setup continued.

Re: eDir 8.8.8 on Windows 2012 DC fails

OK further info

I installed all the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable
Package (x86) + (x64) packages, but the install stopped a launch error
on MSVCR80.dll. What?? it is installed.

So I finally read all the documentation and prerequisites.

To install edit 8.8 SP8 on a Windows 2012 AD/DC (x64), these are the
steps I took.

1. install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) +
(x64) that come with the eDir 8.8 SP8
under
\eDirectory_88SP8_All\eDirectory_88SP8_Windows_x64\eDirectory\windows\x64\redist_pkg
2. install nici (NICI_wx64.msi) from
\eDirectory_88SP8_All\eDirectory_88SP8_Windows_x64\eDirectory\windows\x64\nici
3. open a Admin command prompt and cd to \Windows/SysWOW64/novell/nici/
and run set_server_mode.bat
4. stay in Admin command prompt and cd to
\eDirectory_88SP8_All\eDirectory_88SP8_Windows_x64\eDirectory\windows
and run Setup
5. eDir will finally install. Since on a AD/DC, the install will
complain the LDAP ports are in use. I changed the defaults of 389 & 636
to 390 and 637. Installed and replicated eDir.

Have a good day.

Good catch. I'll report this so that it can be fixed in a future update.
