eDirectory dib folder multiple nds.* 4GB files

Hi All,

I have an eDirectory 9.1.2 (v40103.12) installation on 2x RHEL 7.6 servers holding a test TREE. I have picked recently that something is eating into both servers disk space and saw that the dib folder has multiple 4GiB nds.* files and its growing. What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Jeremy

Re: eDirectory dib folder multiple nds.* 4GB files

In iManager, Agent Configuration, Database Cache, how big does it show your DIB size?

nds.01, nds.02 and so on are the real DIB files, and they roll into .02 and .03 as you exceed 4GB per file (To avoid file system size limits that used toe xist).

What is the extension of your nds.* files?

Re: eDirectory dib folder multiple nds.* 4GB files

That is odd.  So 142MB DIB and multiple 4GB file.

I actually thought the 01 and up count would have been Hex so 0t, 0q, etc is very odd.

They are not streams files, which would be OBJECTID.nds I think.

They are not roll forward logs (Those would be in the RFL directory).

Very odd, call support on this one I think.

See the jump from numeral to letter at a customer running SLES this is with eDir8.8.8.11
Also skipped a-f just like your example.

So not necessarily a problem. Just an odd naming scheme that only shows up on super huge DIBs.

No, I just re-read that, 142GB DIB.  That is oddly large.

How many objects?

Are they 'thick' objects?  Do you have very verbose attributes and perhaps lots of them?  That is still odd, 142GB is bigger than I would expect. A  customer with 2 million users was only 35GB or so.

@geoffc

What do you mean by "thick" objects and where can I check this?

This is in a TEST environment which can be re-done, its just odd that this happened🤔

Thanks in advance.

Re: eDirectory dib folder multiple nds.* 4GB files

A Zenworks app might have been an example, where they encoded some of the files into eDir as stream objects.  Or objects with a bajillion attributes.

Like thousands of groups with thousands of memberships. (Or millions of each to get to your sizes).

IT is rude to can them fat objects, so we call them thick instead.
